On May 15 I will be traveling with Dr. Gillian Roehrig, Dr. Julie Brown, Dr. Doug Paulsen and Ms. Jeanne Wieselmann to present on STEM education to faculty and teachers in Shizuoka and Kyoto Japan. Dr. Yoshisuke Kumano from Shizuoka University has invited us to share with his faculty the model of STEM Education we are working on here in the state of Minnesota.
During fall of 2016, Dr. Kumano brought a team of STEM education professors from five different Universities to visit STEM schools in Minnesota. Since I work with Owatonna Public Schools and we have multiple STEM schools here, his team of 10 research faculty came to observe our classrooms, interview us and our teachers. This past winter Dr. Kumano has invited us to Japan to share our STEM teaching and learning model and provide STEM professional development to K-5 teachers from a local school. STEM education in Japan is only just beginning and Dr. Kumano would like to present a STEM teaching and learning model to the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) for adoption to the national curriculum. We are honored to have an opportunity to share our ideas on STEM teaching and learning and building and partnership Japanese public schools.
Here's the flier that is being posted around the Shizuoka University inviting people interested in STEM Education to come to our lecture and research presentation.
