I'm packed for the next 8 days and just finished converting two of my favorite lessons into Japanese. We are going to be teaching an activity I like to call "Hexbug SUMO"! This is an engineering challenge where people are asked to take a Hexbug Nano and convert it into a battlebot with paper clips, rubber bands, notecards and twist ties. It's an absolute riot and no matter the age, we can't help but cheer when one nanobot pushes another nanobot off the table!
The final touches to packing include making sure my passport, phone and money are safe. I looked up the names of the people on these two Yen notes and I was excited to learn they are scientists, authors and educators. Hideyo Noguchi (1,000 Yen) identified the causative bacterium for the disease syphilis and Ichiyō Higuchi (5,000 Yen) was an author of short stories that have been a major component of Japanese education for decades.
